GSE Algebra II 27.09920 GA
GSE Algebra II (27.09920) GA is a full-year, high school math course intended for the student who has successfully completed the prerequisite course Algebra I. This course focuses on algebraic techniques and methods in order to develop student understanding of advanced number theory, and concepts involving linear, quadratic and polynomial functions. This course also integrates geometric concepts and skills throughout the units.
Quadratics Revised: Students will revisit solving quadratic equations, explore relationships between number systems, perform operations with complex numbers, solve quadratic equations with complex solutions, extend the laws of exponents to rational exponents, and use those properties to evaluate and simplify expressions containing rational exponents.
Operations with Polynomials: Students will develop an understanding of the structural similarities between the system of polynomials and the system of integers.
Polynomial Functions: Students will continue their study of polynomials by identifying zeros and making connections between zeros of a polynomial and solutions of a polynomial equation, see how the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra can be used to determine the number of solutions of a polynomial equation, find all the roots of those equations, graph polynomial functions, and interpret the key characteristics of the function.
Rational and Radical Relationships: Students will learn that the arithmetic of rational expressions is governed by the same rules as the arithmetic of rational numbers. Similarly, radical expressions follow the rules governed by irrational numbers.
Exponential and Logarithms: Students extend their work with exponential functions to include solving exponential equations with logarithms and analyze the relationship between these two functions.
Mathematical Modeling: Students will synthesize and generalize what they have learned about a variety of function families. Students will also explore the sum of finite geometric series.
Inferences and Conclusions from the Data: Students see how the visual displays and summary statistics they learned in earlier grades relate to different types of data and to probability distributions.
