Intensive Mathematics is a comprehensive, flexible course designed to meet the needs of students who score low on standardized assessments and require remediation. The course can provide remediation of the standards needed to demonstrate mastery. The course should be used with the FLEX option to enable the student to skip standards already mastered.
Due to the nature of the standards covered by Intensive Mathematics, there are more units than in a usual course. An instructor may also choose to have a student skip entire units in their entirety if they are not applicable. Unit topics included in the course are:
- Linear Equations
- Linear Systems
- Angles and Parallels
- Congruent Triangles and Quadrilaterals
- Similar Polygons
- Area, Volume and Transformations
- Coordinate Geometry
- Exponential Functions and Quadratics
- Probability and Statistics
Each unit provides instruction and assessment of the standards to determine student mastery. In many of the units Performance Tasks, Alternate Performance Tasks and Special Projects provide opportunities for application of a wider range of standards. In its entirety, the scope and sequence of Intensive Mathematics covers the major topics and skills necessary for success on standardized assessments.
