Placement Assessment
To ensure accurate grade-level placement, students are evaluated prior to beginning ODYSSEYWARE courses. Diagnostic tests establish a correlation between the student's knowledge/skills base and the requirements needed to master each level of the ODYSSEYWARE content. This testing also helps teachers identify learning gaps and areas in which additional instruction is necessary for progress. With this invaluable tool, teachers can direct, manage, and evaluate learning, providing the structure and feedback to effectively diagnose student readiness and make timely adjustments to facilitate student success.
Formative Assessment and Content Mastery
To pinpoint potential difficulties and adjust accordingly, all students are regularly quizzed and tested as they progress through ODYSSEYWARE course material. With the exception of off-computer projects that require grading by the teacher, student scores from online assignments, tests, and quizzes are automatically recorded and updated. Only after students meet preset mastery benchmarks can they progress to the following unit. Both teachers and students can access this information at any time. Automatic grading not only saves teachers time but preserves data for reporting purposes.
Skills Diagnostics
ODYSSEYWARE Skills Diagnostics for Math and English Grammar courses are a compilation of topic-based units designed to be used for student remediation. Each unit begins with a pretest to determine whether students have a working knowledge of the material within a particular topic-centered unit. If the student shows mastery of the content, he can advance to the subsequent unit without additional instruction. Skills Diagnostics is an efficient answer for students who have already fulfilled adequate seat time but need to fill particular knowledge gaps. Multimedia-rich, ODYSSEYWARE Skills Diagnostics is a fresh, innovative approach through which students can refresh their skills.
Prescriptive Credit Recovery
With Prescriptive Credit Recovery (CRx), at-risk students short on graduation credit requirements get the opportunity to make up missing credits and receive their diploma on time. Students in ODYSSEYWARE's credit recovery program are given pretests before beginning each unit of a particular course. Those showing mastery of the unit content need not review that unit's material but progress immediately to the next unit. This allows students who have already failed a course or did not complete a course to revisit only the material they need to show mastery for completion.
