Tough Talk
Parents have a tough job when it comes to effectively raising tomorrow’s citizen. Among the many challenges are unruliness, behavior issues, and the temptations of drugs and crime. Who would’ve thought science could be lumped into the list of topics parents most fear discussing with kids? According to a new survey by Intel, beakers and periodic tables do indeed outweigh drugs as the most feared subjects in parent-to-child talks.
A new survey from the Intel Corp. has found that parents feel more equipped to talk with their children about drug abuse than about math and science.
According to a nationwide online survey polling 561 adults with 5- to 18-year-old children, 75% of parents of teenagers felt comfortable discussing drugs, versus only 52% of parents of teenagers who felt comfortable discussing science.
Although it may appear humorous to some given the incongruity of the subjects the poll compares, OdysseyWare recognizes the seriousness of the survey’s results: parents want their children to succeed yet might have apprehension about how they help them do so in some of school’s most difficult disciplines. Our curriculum, though rigorous in application, provides students with an outlet to seek answers confidently and comfortably. So parents, relax. We’ll take it from here when your child has those tough questions!
What is it about this that your brother will love? Is he a teacher? parent? both? As parents, we want to have all the right answers, but often find ourselves inequipped with the information we need, especially when it comes to subjects like math and science. Now there’s a place to find answers.
