June 26, 2010 Release Notes

News, ODYSSEYWARE on June 17th, 2010 5 Comments

Dedicated to providing the most efficient and effective eLearning solutions to public and charter schools today, ODYSSEYWARE is pleased to announce a full slate of practical enhancements to our technology-driven online curriculum.

1. Both teachers and administrators now have the ability to activate or inactivate students with a new batching feature.

2. Users can now delete custom courses and assignments.

3. Teachers and administrators have the option to block students from viewing completed tests and quizzes.

4. Students will receive a warning when they are about to enter a quiz or test so they may decide if they have sufficient time in which to complete it. If they choose to begin, the quiz or test will be marked complete upon exiting for any reason. In order to enter the quiz or test again, it must be reassigned by the teacher.

5. Both teachers and administrators are now able to print the Usage Report (Time-on-Task) that was formerly only available in the Administration mode.

6. All teachers are now able to assign courses to students at the time they create students.

7. As with tests, teachers and administrators are now able to block all quizzes at time of assigning the course.

8. Teachers are now able to skip an entire unit with one click.

9. Students must complete all assignments in the unit in which they are currently working before moving to the next unit. This will ensure that all projects will be completed in a timely manner while the material is fresh. As projects will not be allowed to accumulate beyond the current unit, there will no longer be a list of active projects displayed on the student’s home page.  Students who wish to continue past a project without completing it will now need to access the next assignment through their courses button.

10. Course progress screens for teachers and students will show a completed date only when a unit (including all projects) is fully completed.

11. The percentage of a course that has been completed will now be viewable on both student and teacher course progress screens.

12. Teachers will now be able to view time/date stamps on the Grading page upon a student’s completion of each assignment.

13. Teachers now have the ability to override the status of an assignment, mark it complete, and assign a grade, regardless of the previous status of the assignment.

14. Teachers will now immediately receive a message referencing the assignment anytime a student submits a Help request on a question within an assignment.

15. Questions will no longer be suspended from grading when a student submits a Help request.

16. Students now have access to split-screen viewing, with reading material and lesson information a window at the top of the screen, and questions in a window on the bottom of the screen. These panes are resizable. This feature is functional in Firefox®, Chrome, Safari®, and Internet Explorer® 8, but NOT in Internet Explorer 7.

17. If necessary, teachers can now disable the messaging system for any student.

18. A search box has been added to the Student Progress page, as well as First, Previous, Next, and Last page navigation buttons.

19. Teacher Notes, that were once in a stationary position at the top of each assignment, are now accessible to students from anywhere in the assignment. Students may click on the Teacher Note button to hide or show notes.

20. Teachers can now reassign paragraph and essay questions within an assignment with a new Reassign button.

21. To give feedback on the Feedback page, users must now place the URL (or location) in the main text field, along with their message. The Page field no longer exists.

22. The Finish Assignment button within assignments has been moved to the top right corner of the window to increase its visibility and to make better use of screen space.

23. The Lesson Plan button is now located on the Grading and Review page for each individual student.

We believe that these key enhancements have made ODYSSEYWARE a more robust, efficient, and friendly user experience. As technology advances, it is important that, as your partner in education, we continually improve content, features, and efficiencies to make ODYSSEYWARE the most effective online curriculum available. We remain committed to the belief that “every student can achieve.”

I woudl like to know if you are now supporting Internet Explorer, 7 or 8. I see above that IE 8 is supported with the new split screen function which we are moving to this summer but OW ran terribly in IE 6 and 7 even after the salesman told us it would work with some modest tweaks – which we did and had no affect. We are a “standards based district” and do not have enough support staff to support every application the is dictated to us by individual contractors.
